Generic Femara, Letrozole belongs to a class of medicines known as aromastase inhibitors. Femara is the brand name for the drug whose active ingredient is Letrozole. The role of Generic Femara is to block an enzyme called aromastase which is the main source of producing estrogen (a female hormone) in the body. Letrozole is an effective anticancer therapy employed to treat certain forms of breast cancer in post-menopausal women. Higher levels of estrogen are primarily responsible for the growth of a number of breast tumors. Femara (Letrozole) lowers the estrogen levels in post-menopausal women and prevents the risk of developing any kind of tumors.
